August SSI and SSDI Disability Benefits
The disability benefit payment calendar is now ready for August so SSDI and SSI recipients can see when they will receive their monthly benefits in the U.S. The first and last disability benefits for August are scheduled to be paid on the 1st and 30th.
So SSI recipients will get their payments on Aug. 1 and Aug. 30. That’s because the September payments need to be sent two days early. The change was made because the SSA can’t deliver or directly deposit checks on Sundays.
SSDI, but not on August 3rd
SSI recipients aren’t the only ones affected by the payday change: Americans who receive SSDI will not be able to get their money on August 3rd because that is a weekend. Instead, they will get their money on Friday, August 2nd.
The Aug. 2 SSDI payments will be made to retirees who have been enrolled in Social Security for 27 years or more, meaning they received disability benefits before May 1997.
But they’re not the only recipients: Recipients of SSI who also receive SSDI will also receive this payment on August 2. Three more checks and direct deposits will be sent out in mid-to-late August.
SSDI from August 14 to 28
The Social Security Administration will begin sending benefits on Aug. 14 to disability beneficiaries who did not receive SSI, received benefits after April 30, 1997, and were born before the 10th.
People who meet the same criteria but have birthdays later in the month can start receiving SSDI benefits on August 21, but only if their birthdate is between the 11th and 20th.
Similarly, if you receive Social Security Disability Insurance and did not qualify for any of the previous payments, your birthday must be between the 21st and 31st, so you will be eligible for a check or direct deposit on August 28. The average payment will be $1,537 for SSDI and $697 for SSI.
