Ariana Aboulafia is a Policy Advisor for Disability Rights in Technology Policy and leads CDT’s Disability Rights Program, which focuses on how specific technologies impact people with disabilities, such as automated employment decision systems used for hiring and algorithmic systems used in benefit determinations. Above all, CDT’s Disability Rights Program seeks to advance policies that protect the digital and civil rights of people with disabilities.
An attorney with a strong background in public interest advocacy, with particular expertise in disability, technology, criminal law, and the First Amendment, Aboulafia was first exposed to technology while serving as a fellow at the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative. He later worked as an assistant public defender in Miami-Dade County, directly representing clients facing both misdemeanor and felony criminal charges, and served on the board of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s journalism program.
Ariana earned her BA in Political Science and Law, History, and Culture from the University of Southern California and her JD with a concentration in Social Justice and Public Interest from the University of Miami School of Law. Her work has been published in Slate and Tech Policy Press, as well as several academic journals, her research has been presented at Yale University, and she has been honored by the National LGBTQ+ Lawyers Association.
