Americans who are recipients of the Social Security Disability Insurance program (SSDI) will begin receiving their disability benefits later this month. If you, a loved one, or someone you know is a member of this community, you need to know when your benefits will be paid and what the program benefits are. Learn more about the complete SSDI payment schedule published by the Social Security Administration (SSA) this month.
What kind of disability benefits will be paid in June?
When you start to see life through the eyes of a person with a disability, you will realize how different it is from what you are used to when you face access hurdles or have challenges completing daily household chores. This is especially evident when you are looking for work, when income becomes a very sensitive issue. The Social Security Administration (SSA) operates two types of programs for people with disabilities:
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
This program is an insurance type program, which means that you transfer the financial risk of becoming disabled to the Social Security Administration. In this particular case, instead of paying annual premiums like with other types of insurance, you pay a portion of your paycheck to the Social Security Administration in the form of Social Security taxes.
If you have an employment contract, your employer will pay the same amount of tax as you pay. If not, you will have to pay more if you are self-employed. After paying taxes for a minimum of 10 years, you will be covered and will start receiving disability benefits if you are diagnosed with blindness or disability by a medical professional.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
The program is available to adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. However, because the program is meant to keep Americans from falling into poverty, they must adhere to monthly income and asset limits.
What is the disability pension payment schedule?
The SSA administers disability benefit payments in the same group as other payments related to Social Security taxes. Therefore, the date on which a retiree receives his or her pension and the date on which an SSDI recipient receives his or her payment are the same. To this end, the SSA has created an annual calendar that consolidates all payments for the programs it administers, which you can view at this link.
However, if you want to know when your disability benefits will start, there are some important factors to consider and be aware of. First, it is important to know when you will start receiving your disability benefits. If you started receiving benefits before 1997, your first payment was made on June 3rd of the previous week. Typically, payments are made on the 3rd of the month (unless it falls on a holiday or weekend). In those cases, your payment will be brought forward by one day, or brought forward to the previous Friday.
Second, if you started receiving SSDI payments after 1997, the timing of your payment is determined by your date of birth. Your date of birth is divided into three periods.
Days 1-10: Disability benefits payments are processed on the second Wednesday of the month. Days 11-20: Payments are made on the third Wednesday of the month. Days 21-31: Aid payments are received on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
These parameters are converted from June to the following dates:
Date of birth Date of disability allowance payment June 1st to 10th June 12th June 11th to 20th June 18th * June 21st to 31st June 26th
You’ll notice that June 18th is a Tuesday, not a Wednesday. This is because June 19th is Juneteenth, a federal holiday.
