HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WBRC) – If you have a disability or are a caregiver for someone with a disability, you will have the opportunity to voice your opinion on how the city, state and country can improve services for people living with disabilities and caregivers of people with disabilities at the Governor’s Disability Policy Summit, which will be held on Tuesday, June 18th.
The event is hosted by the Lakeshore Foundation of Homewood.
Admission is $15, which includes lunch from Taziki’s and a goodie bag. Registration for the event opens at 9 a.m. The summit will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an optional networking reception from 4 to 6 p.m.
There will also be a vendor expo during the event.
The event is sponsored by the Governor’s Office on Disabilities, Lakeshore Foundation and the Office of Disability Rights and Resources.
Keynote speaker Christopher Alvarez, bilingual disability activist, freelance journalist for The New York Times and contributing writer for NBC Latino, will speak about navigating education, employment and housing systems and advocating for services.
ASL and CART services are offered.
This is a day of discussion and information on consumer-led disability advocacy.
