Recognizes and commemorates the 78th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

78th Anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October 2023 marks the 78th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

The purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to raise awareness of disability employment issues and celebrate the many and diverse contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.

Meanwhile, NDEAM dates back to 1945 and initially began as a one-week program, catering only to people with physical disabilities.

The program has since expanded to a month-long period, and its name and scope have evolved to recognize the importance of increasing inclusion in the workforce of people with disabilities of all kinds.

A workplace that welcomes the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, is a key part of our efforts to build inclusive communities and a strong economy.

Activities during the month reinforce the value and talents that people with disabilities bring to the workplace and community. [city’s/county’s/state’s] Commitment to inclusive communities that increase access and equity for all, including people with disabilities.
