Join Texas Standard and a panel of experts as they discuss some of the key issues that affect the 3.5 million Texans living with disabilities.
Amy Litzinger of Parents to Parents of Texas, attorney Sashi Nissanka Rao of the Texas Disability Rights Association, and community activist Nancy Crowther will kick off the conversation.
Specifically, we’ll cover the following:
current challenges and opportunities in fully inclusive education, legal and practical access to polling places for all, and transportation technologies such as autonomous vehicles and accessible navigation tools.
The conversation will be led by Shelley Brisbin, a reporter and producer at Texas Standard and host of the recent Texas Standard one-hour special, “The State of Disability in Texas.” Brisbin is a multiple-time winner of the Barbara Jordan Media Award, which recognizes the best reporting on disability in Texas.
If you have questions about education, voting or transportation, please submit them ahead of time through Texas Standard’s contact form and contribute to our discussion.
Wheelchair accessible seating and ASL interpretation will be provided. The Long Center is accessible by public transportation, including CaptMetro lines 1, 3, 7, 10, 20, 30, 801, and 803.
Audio of the event will be recorded and made available at a later date on KUT 90.5 and at KUT.org along with a transcript.
