The Southern California fire broke out Saturday afternoon near I-5 in Gorman.
GORMAN, Calif. — High winds are pushing so-called “post-fire” flames into dead trees in the mountains along Interstate 5 north of Los Angeles.
Officials on Sunday warned residents in the path of the fire to prepare to evacuate if the blaze spreads significantly again.
Los Angeles County’s first major wildfire of the year quickly grew to more than 19 square miles, a day after at least 1,200 campers, off-roaders and hikers were forced to evacuate recreation areas.
The fire is only 2% contained. No injuries have been reported. Low humidity and wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected throughout the day.

Wildfire prevention measures
If you live in an area prone to wildfires, Cal Fire recommends creating a fire gap around your home. A fire gap is an area around a structure that’s completely cleared of vegetation and other debris. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The Department of Homeland Security recommends having an emergency kit ready with important documents, an N95 respirator, and essentials in case you are forced to evacuate. The department also recommends signing up for local alert system notifications and staying aware of your community’s evacuation plans to best prepare yourself and your family in the event of a wildfire.
