A look at the Southern California wildfires – NBC Los Angeles

Strong winds sparked several wildfires in Southern California over the weekend.

The fires include the Post Fire, which is burning 15,000 acres north of Los Angeles and in Ventura County, where evacuations have been ordered as the blaze scorches hillsides covered in scrub that grew after Southern California’s wet winter.

After the Fire: North Los Angeles and Ventura County

High winds fanned the flames over the weekend, causing the fires to grow to more than 15,000 acres in northern Los Angeles and Ventura County.

The Post Fire broke out Saturday afternoon in the Gorman area near the 5 Freeway. It was 8% contained by Monday morning and poses a threat to nearby properties. About 1,200 people were evacuated from Hungry Valley State Vehicle Recreation Area. Winds continued to push the fire south toward Pyramid Lake, which was also closed.

A red flag warning will be in effect for areas along the 5 Freeway until at least Tuesday evening.

One commercial building was destroyed.

Details about the cause of the fire were not released Monday.

Max Fire: Lancaster

Firefighters have halted the advance of the Max Fire, which has destroyed several structures in Lancaster, scorched an estimated 500 acres of brushland and destroyed buildings and cars in a residential neighborhood on Sunday.

Hesperia Fire: San Bernardino County

The Hesperia Fire was 30 percent contained Monday after burning at least 1,000 acres in San Bernardino County. The fire was reported Sunday afternoon near the 8000 block of Chase Avenue.

Lisa Fire: Moreno Valley

An 860-acre brush fire in eastern Moreno Valley was 50% contained by Monday after firefighters worked through the night to put out the flames.

The fire was reported around 1pm on Sunday near the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Alessandro Boulevard in the Riverside County community. By 7pm, the fire had grown to 867 acres and was 20% contained.

No injuries or evacuations were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
