Vicinity Centres is proud to embrace the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme, demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity, acceptance and support for people with invisible disabilities.
Inspired by the success and impact of this program across a range of sectors, Vicinity is proud to expand this initiative to 58 centers across the country.
This internationally recognised initiative aims to increase understanding and consideration for people with invisible disabilities. By wearing a sunflower pin, wristband or lanyard, people can subtly show that they need assistance.
Katherine Grbic, social impact leader at the Vicinity Centre, said the Sunflower with Hidden Disabilities programme provides awareness and training to staff to recognise clients who may need extra support due to invisible disabilities such as autism, epilepsy, hearing loss or chronic illness.
“Vicinity values inclusivity and is constantly looking for ways to create a more meaningful and positive experience for all our guests. It’s the little things that go a long way in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for our entire community,” she said.
It is estimated that around one in five Australians live with a disability and 80 per cent of disabilities are invisible. Guests visiting Vicinity centres are encouraged to find out more about the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program and explore the resources available on the program website.
Through its adoption of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme, Vicinity Centres is reaffirming its commitment to delivering good business through purposeful ESG programmes and thinking.
