Why Los Angeles won’t play 2028 preseason games at SoFi Stadium

While it’s hard to predict exactly what the Los Angeles Rams’ roster will look like in 2028 (the team’s current starting quarterback will be 40 then, after all), one thing is already known about that season from Los Angeles’ perspective: None of the Horns’ preseason games will be played at the team’s home stadium, SoFi Stadium.

That’s because the swimming events for the 2028 Summer Olympics are scheduled to be held there during the NFL preseason in August of that year, according to COO Kevin Demoff.

“When we envisioned @SoFiStadium, we envisioned hosting the world’s greatest events, but we never imagined we’d be hosting the biggest swimming event of all time,” Demoff wrote on his X account. “We can’t wait to welcome @LA28 @USASwimming and the best swimmers in the world to Rams House!”

Demoff acknowledged that the Rams will be away from SoFi for the entire preseason, but said in a separate tweet that the club is openly accepting suggestions for other locations where the Rams could host games.

“Yeah, but we’ll hold a game or two somewhere else,” Demoff told fan @ItsBrettFromLA on X. “Any suggestions? Too bad Aloha Stadium is no longer available!”

The Rams have plenty of options in the city, including their former home stadium, the Coliseum, and the UCLA Bruins’ favorite stadium, the Rose Bowl, in Pasadena.
