Iowa group expands services for people with disabilities

A local nonprofit is expanding its services for people with disabilities in Iowa. Community Support Advocates (CSA) offers a variety of programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those who need mental health care. The new center, located at 1516 Valley West Drive in West Des Moines, includes a sensory stimulation space and a full clinic with more therapists. Currently, CSA President Christina Smith says the organization serves about 2,500 people in central Iowa each year. With the expanded space, leaders believe they can help about 500 more. “It’s also really important to create a space, a community and an environment where people can feel their true self, be who they are, and feel really understood,” Smith said. The facility’s grand opening is Tuesday at 4 p.m. Anyone is welcome to visit the space and use the services.
