Boy stabbed to death at Palms Community’s first community carnival 01:47
A teenage boy was stabbed to death during the first-ever community carnival in the Palms district of Los Angeles.
Police say a group of minors got into a fight at the first Palms Weekend Community Festival around 10:30pm on Saturday, resulting in a 16-year-old boy being stabbed multiple times. The victim did not survive and has not been identified. The suspect and the other teens involved in the fight all fled the scene. A search is ongoing for each of them.
The event is a three-day carnival with live music, food and games, organized by the LAPD Pacific Area Support Association, the Motor Avenue Association and Los Angeles City Council District 5. Organizers hope the event will become a new tradition in the neighborhood, bringing people together over the weekend and fostering community connections.
LAPD Officer Christian Faulkner said that despite the large number of officers present, “unfortunately, the suspect may find an opportunity and we are limited in the area we can cover.”
The stabbing led to the weekend carnival being shut down early Saturday morning. The festival was due to resume as scheduled on Sunday afternoon.
