70% VA Disability and Unplanned TDIU
Total disability benefits based on an individual’s inability to work (TDIU) can be an important benefit for veterans who are unable to work due to a service-connected disability.
To be directly eligible, a veteran must have one symptom rated at 60% or higher, or one of several symptoms rated at least 40% for a combined rating of 70% or higher.
If these specific criteria are not met, your TDIU case may still be pursued through an off-schedule review, which would require the filing of VA Form 21-8940.
For veterans, filing for TDIU at 70% disability can result in a significant increase in compensation because veterans who are unable to hold full employment due to their disability will have a 100% disability rating.
TDIU gives veterans the opportunity to receive the maximum amount of disability compensation.
