July is Disability Pride Month. This month we commemorate the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990. At NYRR, we celebrate our advocacy and support for athletes with disabilities and our long-standing partnership with Achilles International.

Michael Ring was diagnosed with acute motor axonal neuropathy, a rare variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome, in 2014. His decade-long recovery has been filled with challenges, but Michael has never lost his energy, optimism or sense of humor.

Susanna Scaloni is a five-time winner of the wheelchair division of the Mastercard New York Mini 10K and has served as a Run for the Future ambassador, working with participants in NYRR’s freerunning and wellness programs for high school girls in New York City.

Dick Traum lost his right leg in an accident at age 24. Traum, who passed away earlier this year, was known as the first amputee to complete a marathon and founded Achilles International. The race bib for the 2024 Achilles Hope & Possibility 4M presented by TD Bank is a tribute to Traum.
