Although American society has made increasing improvements in terms of employment equality and accessibility in physical and virtual systems, the need for disability benefits remains, because the lack of opportunities and challenges faced by people with disabilities represent a process of redefining core values in life and accepting new circumstances, as well as a new and complex combination of uncertainties regarding professional and economic success.
In times like these, it’s important to have access to every type of benefit the U.S. government can provide, so knowing when each program will make payments is essential to ensure you or your loved ones can accurately forecast payments that will occur during the month and get the most out of your benefits.
What programs offer disability benefits?
To better understand how disability benefits work, we need to make an important distinction. We can say that there are at least two programs related to this type of benefit administered by the SSA (Social Security Administration). They mainly differ according to the demographic they serve. The types of disability benefits offered are:
When is my next disability benefit payment due?
If you receive SSI benefits, your benefits will start tomorrow because the SSA schedule dictates that the program receives benefits on the first of the month (unless that day is a weekend or holiday, in which case they will be processed on the nearest previous business day).
Otherwise, for SSDI benefits, a distinction is made according to when you started receiving benefits. If you started receiving benefits before May 1997, you are due to receive benefits on the third day of the month (note that if that day falls on a weekend or holiday, the same issues as for SSI apply). All recipients who started receiving aid after May 1997 are organized according to their birthdate as follows:
If your date of birth is between the 1st and 10th of the month: Your disability benefits will be paid on the second Wednesday of the month, which in this case would be July 10. If your date of birth is between the 11th and 20th of the month: Your payment will be processed on the third Wednesday of the month, which is July 17. If your date of birth is between the 21st and 31st of the month: Your disability benefits will be received on July 24th.
If you want to plan for the coming months, you should also check out the SSA’s annual schedule, which has all the necessary dates laid out for each overseeding program.
