Cyril Bitar of Minimal Effort and Roni Mehrabian of SBCLTR teamed up to license the rights to bring the Brunch Electronik event to Los Angeles. Brunch Electronik started as an afternoon party in Barcelona, Spain in 2013 and has since grown into a day-to-night festival. Cyril and Roni had been independently exploring the possibility of bringing the event to Los Angeles, but decided to partner up.

This weekend, July 6th, 2024, will be the inaugural event. It will take place at Exposition Park, just outside of downtown Los Angeles, and is expected to draw 3,000 attendees. The event itself will run from the afternoon until late at night, featuring a variety of music genres, including DJs and at least one instrumental band. The plan is to hold a second event in Los Angeles on September 21st, 2024. As of now, tickets are still available for the July 6th event.

I spoke with Cyril and Roni this week, and they told me about their plans to expand Brunch Electronik’s US presence, and how a day-to-night event has a different energy than a purely night-time outing. My impression is that their version will have a more European feel, with a focus on building community and less on who’s onstage behind the DJ. In this case, as in Europe, no one will be onstage except for the performers, so everyone can focus on enjoying the music together, rather than fighting for position.

DJ Harvey, Maya Jane Coles, Colin, Will Clark, Stavros and Mannix are set to perform at the inaugural event on July 6. In addition to music, the Los Angeles edition of Brunch Electronik will feature food and drink options, art installations and a variety of custom vendors.

It’s always interesting to see something a little different from the norm, and this festival pioneers the idea of an afternoon-to-evening event that appeals to music fans who can blend near-constant musical immersion with the casual daytime rhythms of a sunny weekend.
