Firefighters and paramedics rushed to a Hollywood subway station on Friday evening after a pedestrian was struck by a subway train and suffered “severe lower extremity injuries.”

The incident happened at the Hollywood and Highland subway station just after 5 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Authorities said a pedestrian was trapped under the train and emergency crews were working to free him.

The Hollywood & Highland station is on the Metro B Line, one of two underground heavy rail lines in Los Angeles. Unlike other lines in the Metro system, the B Line (formerly the Red Line) is completely underground, so collisions with pedestrians cannot occur at above ground level.

The fire department did not say whether the pedestrian was shot near the train platform or in an underground tunnel further down the tracks.

One of the tracks between Universal City and Hollywood/Vine is currently closed while emergency crews work to extract a person from underneath the train. Passengers can expect delays as trains share the remaining unaffected track. LA Metro Rider Alerts.

Authorities said emergency personnel would extricate the patient and transport him to a nearby hospital.
