The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) pays veterans compensation based on their disability rating, which ranges from 0% to 100%. If your disability rating is 90%, your compensation will vary depending on the number of dependents you have.
As of December 1, 2023, veterans with a 90% disability rating living alone will receive $2,191.05 per month. If the veteran has a spouse, the amount increases to $2,352.35. For veterans with a spouse and one child, the compensation is $2,479.85. An additional $75.80 is paid for each additional child under the age of 18, and an additional $250.19 is paid for each additional child over the age of 18 who is attending school.
If a veteran has a dependent parent, the compensation amount increases further. For a veteran with one parent, the compensation amount is $2,295.05, for a veteran with two parents, the compensation amount is $2,399.05, for a veteran with a spouse and one parent, the compensation amount is $2,456.35, for a veteran with a spouse and two parents, the compensation amount is $2,560.35.
