Christian Yelich and Blake Perkins both had a home run, three hits and three RBIs, and the Milwaukee Brewers snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 9-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday at Dodger Stadium.
Brewers pitcher Eric Haas hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to avoid a weekend sweep against the National League division leaders and become one of three major league teams yet to lose at least four games this season.
Yelich led off the game with a two-run homer in the fourth inning off Dodgers starter Justin Wroblewski (0-1). Wroblewski was making his major league debut. It was Yelich’s second consecutive game with a homer to center field. He also hit a one-run double in the ninth inning.
Selected as one of the National League’s starting outfielders for the All-Star Game on July 16, Yelich batted .393 (11-for-28) with three home runs and five RBIs during the Brewers’ six-game tour.
Perkins hit a solo homer in the seventh inning, then with the bases loaded, he smashed a single past Dodgers third baseman Kiké Hernández into left field to score two runs.
Jacob Junis (1-0) earned the win. The right-hander took over for starter Dallas Keuchel, who had pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and gave up just two runs in 2 2/3 innings. Keuchel allowed three hits and walked five.
Chris Taylor helped the Dodgers score with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, Los Angeles’ eighth home run in the series.
Despite the loss, the Dodgers (55-36) are two games behind the Brewers (53-38) for second-best record in the National League. Los Angeles travels to Philadelphia, which has the major league’s best record at 58-32, for a three-game series starting Tuesday.
Wroblewski allowed minimal runs through the first three innings but then struggled, as the left-hander gave up four runs on five hits in five innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
