The Rapid City Disability Awareness and Accessibility Committee will be hosting a Disability Resource Fair on Friday, July 26th from 11am to 2pm at Main Street Square in celebration of the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The event is open to the public and will feature entertainment, vendors of products and services for people with disabilities, seniors, caregivers and service providers, free food and a statement from Rapid City Mayor Jason Salaman. The committee will also oversee the distribution of free parking permits to picnic attendees.
“Our annual ADA event is a great opportunity for people of all abilities to share with the public how important the ADA is to our community,” said committee chair Tammy Hoppe. “The event is a great way for people with disabilities and special needs to network, learn about issues and available services and products, and share their opinions.”

This year marks 34 years since the landmark ADA became law in 1990. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of public life, including the workplace, schools, transportation, communications, and all public and private places open to the public. The purpose of the law is to ensure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
