Robbery suspect shot dead after lunging at police in Los Angeles neighborhood

Los Angeles police shot and killed a suspect who lunged at officers after being barricaded during an attempted robbery in the Mid-City neighborhood Monday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers first responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m. for a report of a theft in the 2600 block of South Hulme Avenue.

Upon arriving on scene, officers observed smoke coming from the home and were advised that the suspects had fled the home in a green van. Officers stopped the van nearby and arrested three suspects inside the vehicle, who may not be involved in the burglary.

As firefighters went inside the home to put out the fire, they found a fourth suspect inside the home armed with a knife and refusing to leave.

Authorities called SWAT to the scene and set up a perimeter around the home.
