Commemoration held every October celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities
WASHINGTON – The Department of Labor announced today that its Office of Disability Employment Policy has selected “Access to Good Jobs for All” as the theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, observed in October.
Each year, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of the nation’s workers with disabilities and showcases supportive and inclusive policies and practices that benefit both employees and employers.
“Our 2024 theme, ‘Access to Good Jobs for All,’ represents our commitment to expanding the number and quality of employment opportunities for people with disabilities,” explained Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M. Williams. “Good jobs change lives, and all workers, including people with disabilities, deserve the opportunity to access quality, well-paying jobs in a workplace free of discrimination that prepares them to succeed.”
In 1945, the United States first established a national week to honor the contributions of people with disabilities. Established by Congress in 1988 as NDEAM, the commemoration day evolved to recognize the importance of increasing the number of people with disabilities in the workforce.
