Actor Danny Trejo was caught on camera getting into a fight at the Sunland Tujunga Independence Day Parade after he was apparently hit by a water balloon thrown by someone watching the event.
The parade began at 10 a.m. Thursday and was traveling west on Foothill Boulevard from Mount Gleason Avenue toward Sunland Boulevard when someone in the crowd threw a water balloon at one of the vehicles traveling in the parade.
The car was an old-fashioned convertible, where Trejo, 80, known for his tough-guy roles in films such as “Machete” and “From Dusk Till Dawn,” happened to be sitting.
This prompted the actor to jump out of his car and confront the person who had thrown the balloon.
A fight ensued and the video shows both men exchanging punches before Trejo was knocked to the ground.
Others ran over to try to break up the fight, but it was over before Trejo’s opponent punched another man in the face. Passersby said a large crowd gathered in the middle of the road for several minutes before police finally arrived.
Trejo has yet to comment on the matter.
No arrests have been made in the incident, and Los Angeles Police Department officials say no report has been filed.
Trejo has starred in a number of cult films, as well as owning a chain of restaurants including Trejo’s Tacos and Trejo’s Cantina, and is well-respected in the Los Angeles community. Trejo has been open about his tough upbringing, often discussing his journey from drug addiction and a life of crime to where he is today.
