Police are pursuing a suspected drunk driver in South Los Angeles.
The pursuit began just after 9:10 p.m., when LAPD officers were seen pursuing a white Infiniti G35 with blacked-out windows and no license plates on area roads.
At times, drivers were seen driving on the wrong side of the road or avoiding other vehicles travelling on the same road.
I could see a long line of police cars following closely behind me.
Around 9:30 p.m., the suspect drove over spike strips in the center of the road near West 62nd Street and Figueroa Avenue but continued driving. Smoke could be seen coming from the rear wheels.
Moments later, the driver and passenger, both wearing hoodies, jumped out of the car and ran into a residential area just a block away. The car then sped off, even though no one was in the driver’s seat.
The two suspects eluded officers by jumping fences and running through backyards in the area.
Los Angeles Police Department officers set up a widespread perimeter as they continue to search for the suspect.
This is an ongoing story, check back later for more details.
