“Demand for food assistance remains high and this (new facility) will allow us to provide even more help,” said Michael Flood, the food bank’s president and CEO. “The cost of living is high, inflation is high and the need for assistance is widespread.”
The food bank provides a variety of free fresh foods to about 900,000 people each month, Flood said, and also runs the largest food assistance program for seniors in the United States.
The food bank was founded in 1973 and last year worked with more than 21,000 volunteers.
