Alaska Airlines Launches Historic Route from Los Angeles to La Paz and Monterrey, Mexico

This winter, we’re expanding guest choice with direct flights to two exciting international destinations

Alaska Airlines is pleased to announce it is expanding its international network with the addition of two new destinations in Mexico starting this winter. As the only U.S. airline serving destinations on Mexico’s coast, we will soon begin flying between Los Angeles and breathtaking La Paz, and when we begin operations in February, we will also be the only U.S. airline to offer daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and the vibrant city of Monterrey.

During the winter months, guests seek out warm-weather destinations. Our new nonstop flights to La Paz (LAP) and Monterrey (MTY) meet that demand by offering guests the perfect escape to sunny skies, vibrant city experiences and warm hospitality. It’s not too early to start booking your winter getaway. Tickets will be available for purchase on alaskaair.com starting the afternoon of July 3.

“We recently celebrated 35 years of flying to Mexico and are proud to introduce travelers to the country’s rich culture and natural beauty,” said Kirsten Amlin, Alaska Airlines vice president, revenue management and network planning. “We look forward to continuing to serve these popular destinations, especially in Mexico, as we prepare to launch service to these destinations,” said Kirsten Amlin, Alaska Airlines’ vice president, revenue management and network planning.

We are proud to be the No. 1 U.S. airline operating the most flights, seats and nonstop flights from the West Coast to Mexico, and this announcement continues our longstanding commitment and growth plans in the region.

New nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to LAP and MTY will allow our customers to easily connect from cities in our network. From our hub at LAX, we continue to serve more destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean than any other airline, averaging nearly 16 daily departures to 15 cities in the region this winter.

La Paz, Mexico

This year, we’ll be the only airline to offer direct flights between the U.S. and La Paz, home to some of the best diving and sport fishing in the world. We’re excited to offer three flights per week, year-round.

“We are grateful for the opportunity that Alaska Airlines has given us to invest in La Paz’s beauty and expand its borders with connections to the United States, and we are confident that the flights, especially to Los Angeles, California, will be a success,” said Maribel Collins, Minister of Tourism and Economy of Baja California Sur. “For the Baja California Sur government, tourism is one of the pillars that drive the state’s economy, which is why we are committed to promoting activities that benefit this important sector through the Tourism Trust, which works every day to seek collaborations for the benefit of all.”

“Connecting La Paz and Los Angeles is an important step towards the internationalization of this airport, which has seen a significant increase in passenger numbers over the past three years. We thank Alaska Airlines for offering us flights to one of Mexico’s most beautiful destinations and look forward to welcoming travelers to La Paz and continuing to make it easier for international tourists to visit the city,” said Raul Revuelta Mussallem, CEO of Pacific Airports Group.

Monterrey, Mexico

Add daily service from Los Angeles to Monterrey, Mexico’s second-largest metropolitan area. This popular destination offers the dramatic peaks of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range and a vibrant culinary scene that includes Michelin-starred restaurants. Immerse yourself in history with a visit to the city’s many museums or satisfy your love of the outdoors with a trip to Huasteca Canyon, a popular rock climbing area just outside the city.

“We are pleased to announce that Alaska Airlines will begin operating flights from Monterrey Airport to Los Angeles, expanding service from our airport in addition to Mazatlan and Zihuatanejo,” said Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte. “This new route provides access to new destinations on the West Coast through LAX as we continue to increase international connections from Monterrey to meet the demand for both business and leisure travel.”
