PowerMarket announced that it has been selected to provide Redwood Family Care Network (RFCN), an intellectual and developmental disability services provider, access to clean energy through community solar generation at 35 residential facilities across Southern California. Through PowerMarket, RFCN has joined the Inyokern Community Solar Project, the largest community solar project in California.
“Working with PowerMarket on our community solar project marks an important milestone for Redwood. Environmental quality significantly impacts health and disease burden, so sustainable solutions are more important than ever,” explains Michelle Mainez, COO of Redwood Family Care Network. “Clean energy helps reduce air pollution, one of the biggest environmental health risks in the U.S. This partnership allows us to take steps to contribute to the community solar project, increase the availability of clean energy on the grid, and provide opportunities for more resilient, healthier living environments in the communities we serve.”
In addition to the impacts of air quality and grid reliability on housing stability and vulnerable healthcare workers, Redwood Family Care Network is also dealing with financial burdens like insurance premiums and home prices caused by climate change. Community solar is a simple, accessible solution to making homes more sustainable.
“Organizations like Redwood Family Care Network, which serves vulnerable populations in diverse locations throughout their community, are uniquely positioned to benefit from community solar,” said Jason Kaplan, COO of PowerMarket. “By providing immediate, risk-free access to sustainably produced energy, community solar will enable RFCN to immediately achieve their ESG goals, reduce utility costs, and make a tangible impact on the sustainability of the community in which their residents and staff live and work. We’re pleased to partner with such a forward-thinking and committed organization to mitigate the effects of climate change and bring clean energy to traditionally underserved groups.”
