The Arc of Palm Beach County puts spotlight on local artists
In celebration of Disability Pride Month, The Arc of Palm Beach County is celebrating the accomplishments and experiences of the disability community.
The Arc is spotlighting Margie Lee Rodriquez, a renowned artisan who is part of The Arc’s Artisan Program.
Rodriguez is best known for her folk art painting style that includes vibrant motifs and custom stencil designs, and she has premiered her work at festivals and online.
“We are incredibly proud of Margie Lee and all of our clients, whose hard work and accomplishments truly reflect their determination and talent,” said Charlotte Gill, Chief Advancement Officer at The Ark of Palm Beach County. “The Ark’s Artisan Program promotes the empowerment and inclusion of individuals with disabilities by providing opportunities to develop and showcase their creative talents in a supportive environment.”
The Arc’s Artisan program allows artists to work with staff and volunteers to create any type of artistic work, including mosaics, paintings and greeting cards.
The artisan’s name is proudly displayed on the back of each piece, and program members have the opportunity to earn income and gain valuable life experience by selling their work at local markets, art shows, festivals, and through The Arc’s online shop.
Since 1958, The Arc of Palm Beach County has worked to change the conversation about disability by defying definitions, inspiring possibilities and improving the lives of people with disabilities.¦
