LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Los Angeles Police Department will be stepping up enforcement of drunk driving this weekend with a series of DUI checkpoints and extra patrols across the city starting Friday night.
The DUI checkpoints will target areas with a record of drunk driving accidents and arrests, and LAPD officials said they will also check that drivers have the proper licenses.
“The Los Angeles Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving ability is not solely due to alcohol,” the department said in a statement. “Several prescription and over-the-counter drugs can also impair driving ability. While medical and recreational marijuana is legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.”
