Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that broke out at a tire store in El Sereno on Saturday before it could spread to a nearby building.
It took 88 firefighters just over 30 minutes to extinguish the intense blaze, which was first reported at Cano’s Tire in the 5000 block of E. Valley Boulevard around 5 p.m., according to a statement from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The flames engulfed a large amount of tyres stored on the store’s premises and at one point threatened to spread to a commercial building on the site, although firefighters were ultimately able to prevent the blaze from reaching that extent.
“Because of their quick actions and the truck was able to get on the roof and open it up, they were actually able to save the structure,” Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Anderson said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
Firefighters were forced to contend with sweltering heat while battling the blaze on Saturday, and they said this summer could be a very long one given the recent spread of devastating wildfires in the region.
“Firefighters wear heavy gear and can easily become fatigued,” Anderson said. “We always tell our residents that fire safety should always be their number one priority because it will save your life, and in some cases, it will save our lives, and it will keep us from doing dangerous work.”
