The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks announced that children and teens can enjoy free lunches at more than 90 parks across the city over the summer.
Meals will be provided to anyone 18 and under on a first-come, first-served basis during lunch hours Monday through Friday.
Individuals with disabilities ages 19-22 may also participate as long as they are enrolled in a special school district program during the school year.
No registration or application is required, but food must be consumed on-site.
“We invite all youth and teens to join us for lunch in the park, whether they’re participating in a camp program or just enjoying a summer day with family and friends,” said Jimmy Kim, general manager of the Recreation and Parks Department.
The lunch menu includes a choice of fruit or vegetable, milk, and options such as a salad or deli sandwich.
The program, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, also helps provide food to every student in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where more than 80% live below the poverty line.
With school out for the summer, children who participate in the Summer Food Service Program are guaranteed to receive at least one nutritious meal during LAUSD’s summer break.
The free lunch program will run until August 2nd.
