Disability benefits set to begin being paid to some Americans on July 3
The year in which a retiree applies for disability benefits or other benefits on Social Security determines when they receive their monthly benefits. The U.S. Social Security Administration divides retirees into two broad groups based on their year of retirement.
Within these groups, there are subgroups that are further divided into second groups, for a total of four different groups. Add to this the monthly Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) payment, and you have five different payment dates. Your disability benefits could arrive on any one of those five days.
Generally, disability benefits are paid on the third or second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month. Depending on retirement information and date of birth, recipients may receive their money earlier or later. For your next payday, the most important information is that you will receive your check from the Social Security Administration before a certain date.
How do I get my disability benefits for July 3rd?
The exact date the money will be sent out is July 3, 2024. That’s when the Social Security Administration will send checks for disability and other reasons to the first group of Americans. And to be part of that group, you must have been approved for benefits before May 1997.
So if you’re in that group, the money could be deposited in your checking account right away. Plus, you have to consider that the amount doesn’t depend on the collection date. So while disability pensioners can get up to $3,822, not everyone will get that big a check.
After that collection date, retirees who retired after May 1997 can receive their benefits on the 10th, 17th, or 24th of the month. Your birthday determines the exact day you receive your benefits. The 10th is for retirees whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of the month. The 17th payment is for retirees whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of each month. Finally, the July 24th payment is for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Remember, the type of benefit we have does not determine what time of the month we will receive our money, so if we are truly part of this group of retired Americans, whether it be through disability or some other reason, we will likely be receiving our benefits within the next few days.
