Happy Friday! I’m off for a bit today so I’ll be out grocery shopping sometime, but I’ll be around so feel free to interact and comment. I hope you all had a safe and good 4th of July. I’m sure many of us were at home with upset animals so I hope they’re all home and recovering well.
Everyone knows that June is Pride month. Did you know that July is too? July is Disability Pride month. There are no parades, no disability-only clothing, and no controversy. For the most part, it’s ignored because people don’t know about it. Even many in the disability community don’t know about it.
But we, the disabled, are a minority that anyone can join at any point in our lives. Some are born with disabilities, others acquire disabilities later in life. Most of us will develop some kind of disability as we age, even if it’s “just” a loss of hearing or vision, or limited mobility or energy.
As you can see from Itzl’s concerned look, this is the group that checks in to let you know we are safe and not affected by heat, snowstorms, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or anything else that would cause us to leave DKos. If you are not here or elsewhere in DKos, we will check in if there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heat waves, hurricanes, etc.) If you are going to be away from the computer for a day or a week, please let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join and a good place to learn how to write a diary. You can always send one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network. We all share publishing duties and everyone who reads IAN is welcome to write a diary for the group. All members are editors, so anyone can take a turn as an editor when they have something to say, photos or music to share, or activities or news to promote.
