As Los Angeles continues to grow and buildings become more palatial and modern with the times, there’s something to be said for the classic surroundings and history that define the city. Few are as iconic and long-standing as the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Founded in 1880, the club continues to grow and improve while maintaining the history and surroundings that make it one of the highlights of Los Angeles.
Gyms and health clubs are plentiful and can be found on nearly every block, but the Los Angeles Athletic Club is very different and goes far beyond just working out. There is no question about the fitness facilities, and anything you could want from a workout can be found here. What really sets LAAC apart is that it is a social place – a place to meet and make friends, hold social or business gatherings, or simply get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
New 7th Floor Fitness Center
To enhance the private member experience, the Los Angeles Athletic Club recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation that includes a new fitness facility and a revived Players Café & Restaurant. It also opened its first rooftop patio and deck for private events. The rooftop offers stunning views of Downtown Los Angeles and can accommodate up to 50 guests for any event. The rooftop venue recently hosted a private “Cigars & Scotch” event showcasing the rooftop experience and a selection of premium cigars and scotches available to members.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club has many features that set it apart, but Famous Players Restaurant is one of the best. This restaurant alone is worth the membership, as it offers all-day dining, from the morning espresso bar and breakfast to weekend evening brunch and dinner. The menu is extensive, with something for everyone, including Prince Edward Island mussels and chorizo sausage, grilled scallops, organic roast chicken, and tender, perfectly cooked hanger steak. To accompany dinner, or to unwind after a long day at work, the cocktail list is impressive and inventive. Choose from the Mary Pickford, with Probitas rum, pomegranate, pineapple, and lime, and other cocktails named after Hollywood stars of the past. Members also have access to two bars, the Blue Room and Duke’s Sports Bar, as well as the Invention Bar & Lounge.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club and its long history are celebrated in a unique way on each floor. Los Angeles sports history is apparent throughout, making the hotel feel more like a sports museum than an athletic club. The property has 72 hotel rooms and suites available for non-members, and guests staying at the Los Angeles Athletic Club can also take advantage of the property’s amenities.
If you’re looking for more than just a sports club, you’ve come to the right place – a place you can truly call home. Whether you come to train, have lunch or meet with friends or business associates, the Los Angeles Athletic Club will be a memorable experience.
