Los Angeles Police confirmed that an armed man suspected of domestic violence was found dead Thursday after a lengthy standoff with Los Angeles police.

According to authorities, officers responded to the scene around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the 5700 block of Etiwanda Avenue for a report of a domestic violence assault. The victim told officers upon arriving on the scene that her husband, Marlon Jimenez, 45, had a history of domestic violence and that he was responsible for causing the visible injuries on her body.

Jimenez was in a bedroom in the apartment. Officers ordered him to leave the room and into the hallway. When Jimenez complied, an officer firmly grabbed him by the arm and escorted him into the hallway, police said.

In the hallway, police told Jimenez they were detaining him for investigation of a domestic violence incident. Jimenez became agitated and eventually went back into the bedroom, reached into the waistband of his pants and claimed he had a knife, authorities said.

Jimenez then barricaded himself in a bedroom, police said, after which SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were called to the scene.

SWAT officers finally entered the bedroom several hours later and found Jimenez face-down on the floor under a mattress, with a cord around his neck, authorities said.

Police found a loaded 9mm handgun on the ground next to him, and police said the registered firearm had previously been reported stolen.

No police officers were injured in the incident.
