Executive produced by Dick Wolf, Homicide: Los Angeles takes you into the world of high-profile murders.
Over the past few years, Netflix has been one of the top destinations when viewers want to watch true crime documentaries. From limited series like Making a Murderer and Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel to feature-length fare like The Girl in the Picture and Lover, Stalker, Killer, the streamer has enjoyed great success delivering chilling, intriguing, and downright unsettling content. Soon, the platform will add another notorious murder case to your queue with Homicide: Los Angeles, which hits theaters on July 16. In the latest trailer, the mystery behind a headline-grabbing murder involving a celebrity in the City of Angels begins to unravel.
Highlighting a number of murders that have taken place in Los Angeles over the past 40 years, the trailer for Homicide: Los Angeles features interviews with detectives, prosecutors, and most importantly, friends and family of the victims, discussing their involvement with these horrific cases. Many will know the story of legendary record producer Phil Spector. He was convicted of the murder of Lana Clarkson after years of working with bands such as The Ronettes, The Beatles, and The Ramones. The story of the man behind this charade, Spector’s story, is just one of many that viewers will get to know in the upcoming Netflix series. Other clips from the documentary series featured in the trailer focus on the mysterious disappearance and death of Fox executive Gavin Smith, and the murder of a young mother named Theresa Boudreau.
This is the second instalment in what could easily fall into franchise territory, with Homicide: Los Angeles following the release of Homicide: New York earlier this year. Looking at the people involved in the latest true crime documentary, it’s no surprise at all that the project has been a huge hit with fans. This second installment in the docuseries comes from Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, who made his fortune on police and courtroom dramas, many of which he draws inspiration from high-profile cases such as these. Wolf will executive produce the series alongside Tom Sayer, Dan Cutforth, Dan Volpe, Jane Lipsitz, Nan Strait, and Adam Kassen.
