A large fire caused extensive damage to a home in Koreatown early Friday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 950 South Kenmore Avenue around 10 a.m. for a fire at a home built in 1901.
Due to the amount of flames and smoke, it took firefighters just under 20 minutes to extinguish what was classified as a major blaze.
One of the home’s residents tried to return to the house to rescue their 15-year-old Maltese dog, Marty McFly, but was unable to do so due to the intensity of the fire.
However, when firefighters went inside the home they were unable to find the dog and discovered it had already escaped.
A resident who tried to run back into the home was treated at the scene for minor burns and smoke injuries but did not require hospitalization.
A firefighter was also injured in the incident, suffering a “significant” laceration to his left hand, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said. The firefighter is receiving medical treatment and is expected to return to work shortly.
“The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, but it is currently under investigation as several small lithium-ion batteries on the patio may have been the cause of the blaze,” the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
