WEST ADAMS, Los Angeles (KABC) — Authorities are searching for three suspects after a man was shot and killed on a Metro E Line train Friday night.
The shooting was reported in the La Cienega/Jefferson Station neighborhood in West Adams just after 7 p.m.
Los Angeles Police Capt. Jamie Bennett said there appeared to be an altercation on the station’s ground floor that continued on the train, where shots were fired.
“The suspected perpetrators got off the platform and ran down the stairs,” Bennett said.
When officers arrived on scene they found the victim deceased, believed to be around 35 years old.
The suspects are described only as three men on skateboards.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
The E Line has been suspended.
“Street violence spilling over into public transportation is a growing issue in the greater Los Angeles area,” Metro said in a statement. “Metro sends its condolences to the victim’s family and friends. The Los Angeles Police Department is leading the investigation.”
The shooting comes amid growing concern about violence on Metro trains and buses.
In recent weeks, there have been incidents including an attack on a bus driver, a stabbing on a bus in Lynnwood and a fatal shooting on a bus in Commerce.
Authorities are searching for a woman accused of attacking a Metro bus driver on Memorial Day, the latest in a series of recent violent incidents targeting transit operators.
The Metro Commission last month approved two motions aimed at improving safety on the system.
