The new Social Security Disability Retirement benefits will be in recipients’ hands in just one week. The benefits will no doubt be a financial relief for those with no other sources of income. However, the amount each recipient receives will vary.
But regardless of how much we receive each month from our Social Security Disability pension, the next check could be ours. To receive it, we only need to meet two requirements, and one of those requirements has to do with your retirement year.
Eligibility for your next Social Security Disability benefit
As we have said before, one of the requirements to take into account in order to receive this new Social Security Disability Benefit is the year of retirement. In this sense, the type of benefit does not matter, only the year in which you applied for the benefit.
So the first hurdle we have to go through to qualify for the June 12th payment is that we have been receiving benefits since May 1997. If we have received a check since then, the payment could be ours.
But there is another filter on the date of birth, or more precisely, on the date of the beneficiary’s birth. To be eligible for this benefit, you must be born between the 1st and the 10th of the month. The month of birth doesn’t matter. The year of birth doesn’t matter. Only the exact day matters.
Other Social Security Disability Benefits
Social Security Disability recipients in the United States can also receive additional benefits called Supplemental Security Income. However, not all SSDI recipients can apply for these checks. You must be disabled or over 65 and have a low monthly income to qualify.
If you meet these requirements, you can apply for this additional check, which can give you an additional payment of up to $943 per month. Such a scheme would be extremely beneficial for retirees, as it would provide significant financial relief to eligible citizens.
Still, you don’t have to receive SSDI benefits to get this check — rather, just having a clear disability is enough to apply for monthly Supplemental Security Income.
