Police searching for five suspects after pursuit of stolen Kia ends at roadblock in Hawthorne


What began as a pursuit of a stolen Kia in South Los Angeles ended with police pursuing five suspects from a barricaded vehicle near the end of a chase in Hawthorne, where the vehicle fled into a home.

The pursuit began Wednesday afternoon along the southbound 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles, where Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies spotted the Kia in the Wilmington area. The Kia then backed off the surface road onto the northbound 110 Freeway.

The driver continued to drive recklessly, speeding and meandering along low traffic roads.

Deputies backed up and pursued the Kia along the 110 Freeway and onto the northbound 405. The Kia exited the 405 near Los Angeles International Airport.

At approximately 12:54 p.m., the Kia entered the open road and began speeding in the Hawthorne area.

The five suspects jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot through Hawthorne residential areas at the intersection of West 129th Street and Jefferson Avenue.

All three suspects entered a building in a residential area in the area, and sheriff’s deputies and Hawthorne police have surrounded the scene as the suspects barricaded themselves inside the building.

Five suspects fled the stolen vehicle after the driver led police on a pursuit from South Los Angeles to Hawthorne.
