Second fire breaks out at same Los Angeles church this week

Firefighters are battling a second blaze this week at a building that houses a church in the Chesterfield Square neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials were called to Holy Apostolic Church, located in the 2100 block of West Slauson Avenue, on reports of the latest fire just after 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

Upon arriving on the scene, firefighters found heavy flames coming from the one-story commercial building and were forced to take defensive measures.

Video taken from the scene just after 4 a.m. showed firefighters trying to put out the flames from outside the building with water hoses.

The fire broke out at about 10.30pm on Tuesday at an adjoining shop which shares a wall with the church.

About 50 firefighters stormed into what is believed to be a church and an upholstery store to put out the blaze.

Firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading, but the church was filled with thick smoke, leading one worshipper to believe the building was unusable.

“Oh my God, we won’t be able to worship there anymore… the roof will fall down,” the woman said after the fire.

The causes of both fires remain unknown.
