Side event on health equity for persons with disabilities at the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

More than 1.3 billion people (about 16% of the world’s population) live with severe disabilities, and this number is growing. The recently released WHO World Report on Health Equity for People with Disabilities provides evidence and recommendations to Member States, international organizations, disability organizations, the private sector, academia and other stakeholders to achieve health equity for people with disabilities.

To advance this agenda, the Government of Israel, the Government of Australia, WHO, the International Disability Alliance and the International Disability Development Consortium held a side event during the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), an annual event held since 2008 by the United Nations to discuss all issues related to the implementation of the CRPD in countries.

The objectives of this side event are to:

Present the findings of the WHO World Report on Health Equity for Persons with Disabilities and engage Member States, health partners and civil society in dialogue on entry points for prioritizing and strengthening disability inclusion in national health agendas to address health inequities for persons with disabilities.

The in-person event took place in New York on June 12, 2023 from 13:15-14:30 EDT and was televised.
