LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Six Los Angeles-area eateries were getting new attention Thursday after being featured in the Michelin Guide this week, adding to the prestigious magazine’s list of recommended restaurants.
“From Portuguese dishes like the crispy and tender bacalhau fritters at Barra Santos to boat noodles at Mae Malai Thai House of Noodles, Angelenos will be in for a delicious feast with six new additions,” a Michelin Guide representative said, naming the new additions.
The video featured in the media player above is from the ABC7 Los Angeles 24/7 streaming channel.
A total of 13 California dining options were added to the July guide.
The guide will be updated regularly throughout the year and will announce the best restaurants in August, receiving stars.
The people on the list are:
Barra Santos at Cypress Park
“The menu is centered around Portuguese cuisine, with some home cooking included,” our guide says, “and there are plenty of dishes to share, such as crispy, tender bacalhau fritters with salt cod, potatoes and caramelized onions, and charred cabbage served over white beans with Iberian pork and garlic butter sauce.”
Dambi in Koreatown
“Chef Lareine Ko’s sophisticated menu is presented in large plates perfect for sharing,” the guide raves. “Popular dishes include mushroom bibimbap with fresh vegetables and crispy scallop pancakes with creamy mentaiko sauce. Charcoal-grilled Wagyu beef zabuton, served in a hot cast-iron skillet over grilled onions, is a surefire hit.”
Echo Park Grass
The guide’s authors praise the pizza restaurant as “a hip spot with an emphasis on natural fermentation, including sourdough pizza, seasonal pickled vegetables, and fermented drinks like tepache. Classics like pepperoni are always popular, but standout dishes like stracciatella and prosciutto with basil and coffee honey are also worth checking out.”
Leopard in the former La Brea Bakery building
The guide praised chef Joshua Skenes’ restaurant as “a laid-back, likable spot with a seafood-centric menu, with a bit of pizza thrown in. Come with a group to try a variety of dishes, starting with crispy Red Flint waffles drizzled in Bordier butter and maple syrup, then indulge with the addition of Osetra caviar, aged six months in country bacon salt.”
Mae Malai Thai House of Noodles, East Hollywood
“As the name suggests, the specialty of this restaurant is noodles, especially the boat noodles, which have a rich, full-bodied broth and come with a choice of pork or beef, type of noodles and level of spiciness,” our guide says. “If you can’t decide, don’t worry – the bowls are small, so ordering two or more types might be a good compromise.”
Stella in West Hollywood
The Italian restaurant was recognized by the guide for its “Lardo di Coronanta,” thinly sliced, melt-in-your-mouth lardo served with strawberries, ultra-thin slices of Caciocavello cheese and amaro balsamic. “Su Filindeu,” a memorable pasta dish of hand-pulled noodles cooked in bone broth with braised lamb neck and pecorino dolce, was also praised.
