At one point during the pursuit, the man crashed his SUV into the suspect’s sedan, causing it to lose control and crash into a light pole, according to video from the scene obtained by Nexstar subsidiary KTLA.
One of the suspects, described as the driver of the sedan, died in the crash.
Other suspects reportedly escaped the wreckage after the crash, firing at a 21-year-old man before fleeing. At least one suspect was found hiding in a nearby backyard by a police dog and detained, according to preliminary information.
The robbery victim remained at the scene after the incident and cooperated with police, but it is unclear if he was injured or what he initially stole.
The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, but it’s unclear if the original robbery victim is in custody.
