The first official weekend of summer 2024 is upon us, with a slew of events happening across Southern California to help residents get the season started properly.

Here’s a roundup of some of the events happening this weekend.

Stay Cool and Hydrate: Tips for Surviving the California Summer

Santa Monica Pride

Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade will be illuminated in rainbow lights in a citywide celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. The party starts at noon on Saturday and runs until 8 pm.

Hollywood Bowl

The Hollywood Bowl will celebrate what would have been the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late composer Henry Mancini with performances from Michael Bublé, Dave Koz, Cynthia Erivo and more. Tickets can be purchased here.

Huntington Beach

Enjoy delicious beachfront dining at the recently renovated Lorea Restaurant at Pasea Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach. The land-to-sea themed menu offers a variety of dishes, including vegan options.

Sporting events

This weekend, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Football Club will play at their respective home stadiums.

The Dodgers will face the Los Angeles Angels, while the LA Football Club will take on the San Jose Earthquakes.

California Watermelon Festival

The 22nd annual California Watermelon Festival kicks off this Saturday at Hansen Dam Soccer Field in Sylmar.

This year’s festival will feature all-you-can-eat watermelon for all attendees, adventurous watermelon-themed cuisine, kids’ interaction zones, live entertainment, a carnival section and more.
