Disabled travelers and wheelchair users should have little trouble getting around in major train stations, airports, hotels and most of the city’s new shopping centres and theatres.
About 95 percent of Japan’s train stations are fully barrier-free, and efforts are ongoing to improve accessibility in other public facilities, including the installation of elevators, wheelchair ramps, and other facilities.
Walking around the city is very easy as the sidewalks are smooth and have raised yellow tiles to make walking safe for the visually impaired. However, catching a taxi can be difficult as most regular taxis cannot assist passengers in electric wheelchairs.
