Two children injured in Fork Fire in Angeles National Forest

At least two children were injured in a rapidly spreading fire in Angeles National Forest.

The children suffered smoke inhalation and injuries.

The fire started around 3:10 p.m. in the San Gabriel Mountains above Glendora, near East Fork Road. The Angeles National Forest has named it the Fork Fire. As of 6 p.m., the wildfire has grown to approximately 250 acres. So far, firefighters have the fire 0% contained.

The Angeles National Forest has issued an evacuation order with a waiting area set up at the parking lot where the trail to Bridge to Nowhere is accessed. East Fork Road is closed from Highway 39 to Glendora Mountain Road.

Highway 39 will also be closed throughout the weekend.

The closure has exacerbated an already tense situation, preventing families living in the foothills from reuniting with relatives in campgrounds up the hill.

“I came here to charge my car and left my 16-year-old son here,” said one father who had returned from charging his car. “He thinks I’ll be back in about an hour and a half. I’m worried he’ll be alone at the camp waiting for me.”

The Fork Fire has prompted the South Coast Air Quality Management District to issue an air quality advisory.

This is an evolving story, check back for more details.
