DEI 2024: Best Places to Work for People with Disabilities.

PITTSBURGH, July 17, 2024 /CSRwire/ — Wesco, a leading provider of business-to-business distribution, logistics services and supply chain solutions, is proud to have been recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disabilities” by scoring 100 on the Disability Equality Index®. Launched in 2015 as a joint initiative of Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), the Disability Equality Index is recognized today as the most robust disability employment assessment tool for businesses.

The 2024 Disability Equality Index measured culture and leadership, company-wide access, employment practices (benefits, recruitment, hiring, training, retention and promotion, accommodations), community engagement, supplier diversity and responsible sourcing (unweighted).

“On the 10th anniversary of the Disability Equality Index, we are incredibly proud of the 542 domestic and international companies that are taking an active role in leading progress towards disability inclusion and setting a benchmark for others to follow,” said Jill Horton, President and CEO of Disability:IN. “These companies’ dedication to fostering an inclusive work environment not only attracts top talent, but also drives innovation and creates sustainable performance in today’s global marketplace. Together, we are creating a future where everyone can contribute and thrive,” said Jill Horton, President and CEO of Disability:IN.

Wesco’s ABLE Business Resource Group has played a key role in supporting the company’s progress by facilitating an inclusive environment for employees with and without disabilities. “We are proud to be recognized as a top scorer on the Disability Equality Index,” said Darryl Castellano, Wesco’s vice president of Global Inclusion, Diversity and Engagement. “This achievement reflects our progress and commitment to fostering an inclusive culture where every individual is valued and empowered. Through ongoing efforts to improve accessibility, utilize inclusive I&D training, and support diverse talent, we strive to create a workplace where everyone can thrive and contribute their unique perspectives. These efforts not only strengthen our business operations, but also improve how we serve our customers around the world, driving innovation and excellence in everything we do.”

About the Disability Equality Index®

The Disability Equality Index has become the leading independent, third-party resource for annual benchmarking of companies’ disability inclusion policies and programs and is now trusted by more than 70 percent of the U.S. Fortune 100 companies and nearly half of the Fortune 500. These companies must increasingly consider how new global reporting mandates and stakeholder expectations surrounding social and corporate governance factors impact their operations, culture, reputation and financial performance.

The Disability Equality Index is an objective, reflective, proactive and sensitive disability assessment tool designed to help companies advance inclusion practices. It is a comprehensive benchmark that helps companies develop a roadmap of measurable and concrete actions across five assessment categories: culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, hiring practices, community engagement and supplier diversity. Participating companies receive a score on a scale from 0 to 100, and those who score 80 or above earn the title of “Best Workplaces for Disability Inclusion” for the benchmark year.

Based on the results of the two-year Global Disability Equality Index pilot, a scoring benchmark was launched and in 2024 seven new countries will join the United States: Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Philippines and the United Kingdom. Now in its 10th year, the Disability Equality Index has grown nearly seven-fold since 2015, expanding from 80 companies in the first year to 542 in 2024. The 2024 edition received a total of 753 submissions from the eight benchmarked countries.
