West Allis-based Disability Rights Wisconsin hit by cyberattack

Disability Rights Wisconsin’s office is located in the Summit Place complex in West Allis.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced that one of its partners, West Allis-based Disability Rights Wisconsin, was hit by an undisclosed cyberattack.

The DHS said the incident potentially exposed the personal medical records of 19,150 Wisconsin Medicaid enrollees.

Disability Rights Wisconsin is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of people with disabilities throughout the state.

According to the announcement, the cyber attack was discovered when suspicious activity was found in DRW’s email accounts.

DRW is mailing notices to Wisconsin Medicaid enrollees whose information may have been accessed, according to DHS, “and these enrollees will be offered one year of free credit monitoring and will have access to a dedicated call center to answer their questions.”

Wisconsin Medicaid enrollees who believe they may have been affected by the cyberattack are asked to contact DHS directly through the call center.
